As a Chemist, GS-1320-12 level you will also:
Perform chemical analysis of material with specific expertise in the area of instrument analysis.
Provide scientific support, data, expertise and analytical instrument support for laboratory projects, customers and other organizations.
Develop and document instrumental procedures for analyzing unknown materials.
Be the analytical expert on composite materials analysis using research, specification comparisons and methods development.
Provide laboratory support for accident investigations, material reviews and preplanning.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities (and a minimum of 52 weeks of specialized experience) is required before promotion to the next higher grade.

Agencies are required to accept, process, and grant tentative veterans preference to those active duty service members who submit a certification along with their job application materials. The certification must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid certification of service with their initial application will be found not eligible. Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.
