These positions are being filled under Expedited Hiring Authority (EHA) for Defense Acquisition Workforce Positions and Health Care Occupations . The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority by the Office Of the Secretary of Defense to directly appoint individuals to select defense acquisition workforce positions, or EHA Acquisition, pursuant to the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and 2) certain health care occupations, or EHA Medical. Positions are located at 809th MXSS/MXDEC at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and this announcement may be used to fill other positions located at Hill Air Force Base. Positions may be filled as permanent, temporary or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. You will receive specific instructional guidance in the accomplishment of the more difficult assignments. You will gain experience and develop the ability to fully perform the duties at the next higher grade.
As a Chemist, GS-1320-12 level you will also:
Perform chemical analysis of material with specific expertise in the area of instrument analysis.
Provide scientific support, data, expertise and analytical instrument support for laboratory projects, customers and other organizations.
Develop and document instrumental procedures for analyzing unknown materials.
Be the analytical expert on composite materials analysis using research, specification comparisons and methods development.
Provide laboratory support for accident investigations, material reviews and preplanning.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities (and a minimum of 52 weeks of specialized experience) is required before promotion to the next higher grade.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC EDUCATION LISTED BELOW: REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07/09/11: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05/07/09), pay band or equivalent. _ Specialized experience _at GS-05/07/09 grade levels is described as trainee assignments consisting of specific tasks that are selected to orient the Chemist in the practical application of theory and basic principles; and to relieve senior Chemists of detailed and simple work. Entry level Chemists know and apply basic principles, elementary theories, and the readily available data in their fields. _ Specialized experience _for GS-12 which is equivalent to one year at the next lower level (GS-11), pay band or equivalent is described as a thorough knowledge of the duties involved in analysis, identification and testing of materials such as plating solutions, toxic and hazardous chemicals, drugs, environmental pollutants, unknown chemicals and petroleum products.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, chemical theory, and modern practices.
2. Knowledge of established methodology for performing the full range of duties involved in analysis, identification and testing of materials such as plating solutions, toxic and hazardous chemical, drugs, environmental pollutants, unknown chemical and petroleum products.
3. Knowledge of engineering and industrial processes; the chemical products used in conjunction with aircraft, aerospace ground equipment; and the industrial waste treatment and control of such products in harmony with environmental and reclamation concepts.
4. Skill in modifying and developing methods of analyzing and identifying chemicals, chemical compounds and derivatives.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL GRADES:

PHYSICAL EFFORT : The work requires some physical exertion with periods of prolonged standing at test benches, walking, bending, and lifting/carrying of moderately heavy items weighing between 15 and 24 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Special safety precautions are required and the chemist uses protective clothing and gear such as laboratory coats, gloves, safety goggles, etc., to avoid exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment. Routine physical examinations are required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
