As a Chemist, GS-1320-05 Potential GS-07/GS-09/ GS-11 then GS-12, you will learn the processes to provide analytical instrumentation support to the analytical workloads of the Chemistry Lab. At the GS-12 grade level you will also:
Perform chemical analysis of material with specific expertise in the area of instrument analysis.
Provide scientific support, data, expertise and analytical instrument support for laboratory projects, customers and other organizations.
Develop and document instrumental procedures for analyzing unknown materials.
Be the analytical expert on composite materials analysis using research, specification comparisons and methods development.
Provide laboratory support for accident investigations, material reviews and preplanning.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This position as a Chemist, GS-1320-05 potential GS-07/GS-09/GS-11 then GS-12 level, is considered a developmental position. The candidate will perform less complex tasks of the position independently at the lower grades of GS-05/GS-07/GS-09/and GS-11. You will receive specific instructional guidance in the accomplishment of the more difficult assignments. You will gain experience and develop the ability to fully perform all journeyman duties listed above. This type of preference is usually referred to as derived preference because it is based on service of a veteran who is not able to use the preference. Once the initial online questionnaire is received you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successful, if you provided an email address in your application.
Your application will be evaluated and rated under the Category Rating and Selection Procedures, and you will then be placed in one of three rating categories.
You will be notified via email regarding your qualifications and if you have been referred to the selecting official. Interviews may be conducted at the discretion of the hiring manager.
If selected for the position you will be contacted via email with a tentative offer. If you are not selected you will be notified by this office.

ICTAP: Individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be rated in the best qualified category, without veterans'' preference points, based on the answers provided to the questions contained in the Assessment Questionnaire and supporting application material, for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Best-qualified candidates are also required to meet any job-related personal, suitability, and/or medical requirements established for this position. ICTAP eligibles must submit one of the following as proof of eligibility for the special selection priority: a separation notice; a Notice of Personnel Action (SF-50) documenting separation; an agency certification that you cannot be placed after injury compensation has been terminated; an OPM notification that your disability annuity has been terminated; OR a Military Department or National Guard Bureau notification that you are retired under 5 U.S.C. 8337(h) or 8456.

Military Spouse Preference: Military Spouse preference applies to the wife or husband of an active duty military member of the armed forces, including a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, relocating because of service under a statutory tour. Applicant must meet all pre-employment criteria for suitability and citizenship. Eligibility does not extend to the spouse unless the marriage took place prior to the sponsor and the spouse relocating to the new duty station area. To be eligible for MSP, applicants must be ranked in the Best Qualified category, and be applying for a vacancy within the commuting area of the sponsor''s new duty location. NOTE: To receive Military Spouse Preference (MSP), please submit a copy of the sponsor''s orders showing your name as an accompanying dependent, along with your completed application.
